Statement of Goals and Beliefs
Promoting Economic Growth
In light of current economic challenges I believe we must focus our efforts on promoting business growth and the creation of jobs. This should be the Delaware General Assembly’s first priority. To do this we must work closely with business leaders to be certain that our regulatory policies and tax structures are designed to provide a favorable environment for economic success. In order to move forward we must develop creative ways to protect our present workforce and foster the kind of growth and development that is necessary to ensure a brighter future for Delaware. Any discussion about quality of life begins and ends with a stronger economy.
Streamlining State Government
We must undertake new measures to ensure that our state government operates in the most efficient and economical means possible. During the course of my career I witnessed an expansion of state programs and services during periods of economic prosperity. To control the cost of government and ensure optimal operational capacity I believe we must identify activities which are critical to agency missions and eliminate those that are not. Building upon existing efforts within the Executive Branch, the General Assembly must take a more active role in this area. We must do whatever is necessary to make sure that a thorough review of state government is conducted fairly, without personal or political bias, and in a way that is transparent and allows the citizens of our state to have input and participate in the hard decisions which must be made.
Fostering Educational and Training Opportunities
Now more than ever, it is of critical importance for Delawareans of all ages to have access to the kind of education and training that supports economic prosperity and a greater quality of life. As members of the General Assembly we must do whatever is necessary to guarantee that our educators are properly supported and equipped to prepare students for the challenges of the future. We must do so in a way that promotes efficiency while maintaining the kind of local/community involvement which Delawareans have come to expect. In addition to providing the best education we can for our children, we must bring renewed focus to the needs of adult learners to better prepare them for a changing economy.
Core Beliefs
-
I believe that it is the role and responsibility of elected officials to represent the needs and concerns of the people who have placed them in a position of trust. A Representative represents the citizens whom they serve.
-
I believe that citizens expect their tax dollars to be spent wisely.
-
In light of the many challenges facing us today, I believe that we must put aside petty political differences and work together in a bipartisan manner to address these critical issues.
-
I believe that my energy and enthusiasm, my love for my native state, and my deep knowledge of Delaware and its people would be a great asset in serving the residents of the 36th District.
